United Airlines’ first 787-9 Dreamliner rolled out of final assembly Tuesday evening at Boeing’s Everett, Wash., facility. The rollout marks the first major milestone in the aircraft’s production ahead of its expected delivery this summer. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is the second and newest member of the fuel-efficient 787 family. With the fuselage stretched 20 feet longer than the 787-8, United’s 787-9 will fly more than 30 additional passengers and up to 300 nautical miles farther with the same exceptional environmental performance, including up to 20 percent less fuel burn per seat and up to 20 percent fewer emissions than similarly sized aircraft. The airline is the North American launch customer for the aircraft.....full story

3 bills to end program in 2019 Immigration reform eyed within 5 years

U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez has already decided on the request to extend the program that allows the CNMI’s continued direct access to some 10,000 foreign workers beyond 2014 so it’s only a matter of time to make that decision public, Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) said yesterday. Whether any such extension will be for five years or less is anyone’s guess but three pending bills in Congress would extend the CW program up to 2019 and there won’t be any further extensions. ....full story

Gov. Eloy S. Inos said yesterday that the government still cannot afford implementing within-grade increases because it remains under austerity. Moreover, even if the austerity is lifted, there is still no funding for any such salary hikes, which could cost $5 million to $6 million a year.....full story
