‘Underwater 30 Meters’ TV shoots in the Marianas

The Grotto, Blue Hole, and Managaha are all award-winning dive spots in the Marianas and just the beginning of a list of underwater shore, boat, wreck, and night dives awaiting the eager diver. These sites and more have attracted the focus of Taiwanese dive show “Underwater 30 Meters,” which has just wrapped up 13 days of filming on Saipan and Tinian.

The show follows TV host and model Pei-yu “Patty” Lee, renowned underwater photographer Yorko Summer, and 2016 Marianas intern Jeff Chen as they explore the underwater wonders of the islands.

The MVA hosted a welcome dinner for the production team on June 2, 2017, at Hyatt Regency Saipan.

On Saipan, the group filmed at popular dive sites including the Grotto, Managaha, Banzai Cliff, Laulau Beach, dive site Ice Cream, Naftan Beach, Obyan Beach, Spotlight, and Tanapag Lagoon.

Other activities filmed include the Garapan Street Market, the summit of Mt. Tapochao, bojobo doll-making, a sunset view from the mountains at Baron Villa, and a sunset dinner cruise.

On Tinian, the group filmed additional dive sites, took a self-piloted airplane tour, visited Taga Beach, and took in the sunset.

“[On[ Monday night [June 10], the show producer hosted a ‘thank you’ dinner for the crew and their local dive guides from Ocean Plus. He expressed appreciation for the professionalism and knowledge of the guides, and he was pleased to complete the shoot on time with minimal concerns,” said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “With the success of this show, we will not only open the underwater world of the Marianas to divers from Taiwan, but we have also set an example for being an interesting and conducive location for underwater filming.”

During their stay, the show posted 11 video clips on their Facebook page and received 20,000 views. The television show on the Marianas is anticipated to be watched by 40,000 viewers when it airs later this year.

The group lodged at Grandvrio Resort Saipan during their visit and was assisted by MVA marketing specialist Laura Hsaio and PR & marketing manager Steven Cheng of the MVA’s Taiwan office. (MVA)
