Water customers in Dandan suffered an interruption in their water service due to a lightning strike that hit the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.'s Isley Booster Station on Wednesday.
Acting CUC executive director Alan W. Fletcher disclosed yesterday that the direct lightening strike Wednesday night knocked out the booster station's motors and electrical equipment.
Because of this incident, CUC alerted its customers in the affected area of limited water supply until end of this week due to the work that needs to be done to fix the station.
Fletcher revealed that CUC operations crewmembers have restored one pump, providing very limited service. They are scheduled to replace the second pump today.
“Unfortunately, this means limited service in the Dandan area until crews fully restore pumping capacity,” said Fletcher.
He said that customers in higher elevations in Dandan will have little service until tomorrow. Customers in the other areas in Dandan only had two hours of water service yesterday and will suffer limited service until this morning.
Fletcher said CUC expects full service to all Dandan customers to resume tomorrow after the water tanks are refilled, stabilizing the system's pressure.
“Despite CUC's best efforts to extend full time water service, unforeseen problems such as a lightning strike will cause short-term shortages. CUC apologizes for this inconvenience and will continue to work on restoring services as soon as possible,” added Fletcher.
He advised customers to call the Water Division at 322-5030 for any questions or concerns.
