The Division of Environmental Quality cleanup brigade will be picking up trash at Sugar Dock and Aquarius Beach this Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at 8am.
If you would like to volunteer your time to clean and beautify our island, meet the DEQ representatives on Saturday at the Sugar Dock Pavilion.
Volunteers will split into groups and clean until 10am and break for drinks and then continue, if needed.
This month, outstanding brigade volunteers who participated in at least 10 monthly cleanups will receive a brigade cap and those who participated in at least three cleanups will receive a green brigade T-shirt.
Last month, the cleanup at Wing Beach was successful, with 12 volunteers from the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and family members participating. A total of 80 lbs of trash was removed from the beach and properly disposed off. D&Q provided the refreshment drinks.
DEQ is looking forward to a repeat success this Saturday, so join DEQ's cleanup brigade and “Pick It Up!” Let us work together for the health of our coral reefs and cleanliness of our beaches for everyone to enjoy.
For more information about volunteering, contact the DEQ office at 664-8500/1. (DEQ)
