Traditional crafts making offered this weekend

The Rota Chamorro Cultural Center is offering free lessons on making asentun gabgab, alaguan aliling, and coconut leaf grasshopper this Saturday, Aug. 4, from 8am to 3pm with lunch break between 11:30am and 12:30pm.

These activities are held at the back side of the Rota Community & Cultural Affairs Office Compound. Bring your children so they too can learn the traditional ways of the  Chamorros and Carolinians.

On Tinian, the Tinian Chamorro-Carolinian Cultural Center is offering free lesson on making saibuk chodda at the Man’amku’ Center Pavilion.

The above activities are sponsored by the Association of Native Medicine and Culture, in partnership with the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs on Rota and Tinian, the offices of the mayors of Rota and Tinian,  and the Indigenous Affairs Office, and funded in part by the Administration for Native Americans.

For more information, please call Beck Kani on Rota at 532-9350/5562, Raymond Sablan on Tinian at 433-9220. On Saipan please call 322-0278.
