Over 80 Saipan kids recently completed a week of summer camp at Mariana Resort and Spa.
The Army Reserve Enrichment Camp, or AREC, has sponsored camp experiences for military kids on Saipan since 2009. Activities include hiking, swimming, off-roading, field trips, kayaking, snorkeling, and cooking.
The camp is put on by Marianas Trekking, which has been offering summer camp in partnership with Mariana Resort for the last 13 years.
Many of the campers come from families whose parents have been deployed in recent years and one of the goals is to help the kids learn more about their parents service to their country and develop leadership and teamwork skills.
Youth Services Specialist Travis Mckinney was in Saipan for the week to help administer the camp and said, “This year's camp was highly successful and after reviewing parent surveys, they were very pleased with the outcome. Marianas Trekking staff could not have been more accommodating to our CYSS staff and Military Family and Life Consultant (MFLC). The camp counselors along with Soldiers of the 9th MSC helped to make the “Military Day” a phenomenal event. We are very appreciative that the Army Reserve CYS Mission: “To support readiness and quality of life of families by reducing the conflict between military mission requirements and parental responsibilities” was fulfilled to a great magnitude.”
Marianas Trekking is an adventure company based at the Mariana Resort and Spa and has been running Eco Adventure Camp since 2000. The company also offers a range of adventures like hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, off roading, and paddleboarding.
