Hopwood welcomes students to new school year

Hopwood Jr. High School is welcoming all incoming 7th graders and ongoing 8th grade students, their parents, and guardians to another new school year.

“This year is going to be another exciting year for everyone and we are certain that our students are anxious and excited to report to school to meet their friends, classmates, teachers, faculty, and staff,” said school principal Jonas M. Barcinas.

He assured students and their parents that Hopwood is ready to welcome and nurture all students that enter the “golden gate” of the school and start the journey of great learning, adventure, enthusiasm, motivation to learning, and explore all the possibilities of the school's programs.

Barcinas said Hopwood students can enjoy academics, sports, extra-curricular competitions, school clubs, just to name a few, in the coming school year.

“We highly encourage all of the parents and guardians to take an active role in supporting their child in their learning and involvement in school activities. We also encourage the parents and guardians to support the school in any way possible if they want the best educational institution for their child/ren. Thank you all and welcome back to school Hilitais to our campus,” he said.

Hopwood dates to remember:

-Aug. 27-Sept. 1: All Hopwood staff must report to work in preparation for the opening of the school year.

-Aug. 29: 7th grade orientation only from 8am to 10am. For all 8th graders orientation only from 10:30am to 12pm. Get to know or meet the HJHS faculty and staff, your cohort teachers, purchase your school uniforms, tour the campus, pick up your class schedules, student/parent handbook. Students must sign in with their parents for accountability.

-Sept. 4: First day of school. Students should report to school at 8am. Instructional Block begins at 8:30am. Dismissal for all students is at 3:10pm. Car riders will be picked up outside the school fence. Sped students will be picked in front of building A-8.

Other reminders:

-School uniform at $9 each (for both blue and gold color) will be available in the main office.

-Parents are highly encouraged to register their child/ren if they have not done so. They must provide all the necessary documents to the registrar’s office

-Fill out the Registration form.

-From off-island? You will need to submit all the proper transfer documents.

-Need updated Health Card and health insurance.

-Map to and from the school.

-Email address, phone/cell numbers.

-Fill out the free meal form and the bus form.

-Authorization of family member or guardian designated to pick a student.
