HAGÅTÑA-Legislative Secretary Sen. Tina Rose Muña-Barnes is calling on Guam residents to support relief efforts that will aid flood victims in the Philippines.
Her office is currently accepting donations (monetary, non-perishable food items, towels, blankets, bed sheets) and is working with community leaders and the Philippine Consulate General in Guam to send donations as they are received.
In what has become the worst incidence of flooding since Typhoon Ondoy in 2009, much of the country remains submerged in water including the capital of Manila and its surrounding provinces. Weather analysts expect monsoon rains to continue to last until Thursday.
“We have a special connection to the Filipino community here in Guam. They are an integral part of our island family. With the recent news from abroad, there is a critical need for humanitarian assistance. Our brothers and sisters in the Philippines need our help. I urge our community to find it in their hearts to help our efforts, ” said Muna-Barnes.
