Children served by Karidat Social Services will be receiving McDonald's toys this holiday following yesterday's donation from the local franchise of the world's largest hamburger chain.
McDonald's Saipan general manager Marcia E. Ayuyu, restaurant supervisor Emmanuel James Bautista, and marketing officer Ana Olaes presented 600 pieces of Happy Meal toys of different kinds to Karidat executive director Angie V. Guerrero and administrative officer Judy Pangelinan at the store's Middle Road branch.
Ayuyu said the donation is a way of saying thank you and giving back to the island community that has supported the restaurant for many years.
“It's something that I hope the kids will enjoy receiving. We'd like to give back because we're all family here,” she added.
Karidat's Guerrero said all donated toys, including those from McDonald's, will be distributed to the children of families in need on Saipan
“I'm sure the kids will appreciate the toys. It's a novelty for them. It brings smiles to their faces,” she told Saipan Tribune.
Depending on the number of toys they receive, Guerrero said toys will also be allotted to children on Tinian and Rota. She plans to meet with lawmakers from both islands and discuss the issue of shipping and to make necessary arrangements.
Toy drive wrap up
Today is the last day for new or used-like-new toy to be received for this year's Toys for Tots program, sponsored by Marianas Health Services.
Maria Pangelinan, associate administrator for administrative services, said yesterday that the toy collection drive has yielded good results, with more donations expected throughout the day.
“It's a good humanitarian program for families having a hard time during the holiday season. So far, it's looking really good,” she said.
Donors are requested to bring unwrapped and age-appropriate toys to be matched with Karidat's young clients whose parents will be responsible in wrapping the gifts in time for Christmas Day on Dec. 25.
Pangelinan said all toys donated to the Toys for Tots program will be turned over to Karidat in a ceremony on Wednesday.
