The Saipan Southern High School Manta Ray Band and Saipan Pacific Winds Concert Band will be offering two more free concerts this week.
Manta Ray Band musical director William DeWitt disclosed this after the group's successful concert last week with the Alaska Brass and Saipan Pacific Winds at the American Memorial Park.
Tonight, Dec. 19, the Manta Ray Band will hold its “Under the Stars” holiday concert on campus for their peers, parents, and community members.
The event will be held beside the Manta Monument. Although there will be some benches and picnic tables, guests may bring a blanket to spread out on the lawn or a folding beach chair.
The music will be performed by four different Manta Ray bands and will feature some great holiday music. The event is set from 6:30pm to 8pm.
The second concert is on Thursday night at the SDA Center on Quartermaster Rd. in Chalan LauLau. This one will feature the annual holiday performance of the Saipan Pacific Winds Concert Band, which is now on its 18th season. Longtime residents may remember that in 1994, SDA was the host organization for the first holiday concert presented by this ensemble.
Alongside co-conductor Will DeWitt, Christina A. Nierras will lead the band in some stirring and inspiring holiday selections, including Christmas music from Brazil, Russia, and the United States. Several quintets and quartets will also perform. Admission is free and the concert is slated from 7pm to 8:30 pm.
