Healthy and nourishing food and drinks are now readily available on Saipan with the recent opening of Tropical Blendz Juice Bar + Vegetarian Dishes.
Conveniently located along Middle Road in Garapan, Tropical Blendz had its soft opening last month and has seen a steady growth in its number of customers.
Tropical Blendz, which will have its grand opening early next year, was born out of a desire to promote positive lifestyle changes through healthy eating on an island where the incidence of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases are on the rise.
“Our principle is the delivery of food that makes people feel good, energized and detoxified,” owners Oxana Chekoldina and Sandy Weaver said.
A native of Russia, Chekoldina immigrated to Canada where she opened her first healthy restaurant venture called Sejuiced, voted as one of the leading vegetarian restaurants in the area.
Chekoldina, who also lived in Japan for several years, came to Saipan for a diving course and has been coming back to the island where she met with Weaver who grew up on Saipan and studied hotel business and management in Austria.
Both are driven by their common passion to encourage healthy eating within the community, thus the motivation to have a place where people are assured of fresh, nutritious, and high-quality selections.
Tropical Blendz has for breakfast and lunch an array of healthy and delicious food and drink choices that are all fresh and natural, made with only the finest and wholesome ingredients.
“We don't use any chemicals or bad substances that might be harmful for your body. We make everything from scratch,” added the very hands-on owners. Chekoldina oversees the kitchen while Weaver takes care of the bar and dining areas to ensure that customers receive the best service.
Tropical Blendz offers up to four daily specials that vary every day, served with soup or salad, and are priced under $9.
The place also serves an assortment of rice bowls prepared using the healthier option of brown rice; sandwich wraps, paninis, and falafel; and veggie burgers that give meat lovers a run for their money.
Tropical Blendz is also the only place on island that offers fresh fruit and vegetable juices as well as tasty organic smoothies, making use of the wide range of locally grown agricultural products.
Try their bestselling smoothie “Exotica,” made of blended mango, banana, vanilla, coconut milk, nutmeg, and their homemade almond or coconut milk for just $5 for a 16 oz. Tropical Blendz also prides itself in being environment-friendly since they give discounts to customers who bring their own cups when buying their drinks.
At Tropical Blendz, they also serve organic coffee, healthy shots good for detoxification such as fresh noni and wheatgrass, and powershakes or all-natural protein shakes for your needed boost of energy before or after workout.
To satisfy your sweet tooth, Tropical Blendz has freshly baked muffins, cakes, and other desserts that are gluten and sugar-free. Soon, they will introduce in their sweets Lakanto, the no-calorie and zero-glycemic index sugar substitute for persons with diabetes.
Business has been good for Tropical Blendz since it opened mid-November, accommodating dine-in customers inside its quaint space across from Garapan Central Park and those who are on the go through their takeout counter.
Patrons also get free WiFi and enough parking space up front and on the side.
Tropical Blendz owners are already looking at future plans for the business, which include expanding hours and menu to contain healthy snacks and main courses that cater specifically to children; creating a health plan for diabetes patients, children, and health-conscious individuals; and educating the public about the importance of a balanced diet.
