USP4GG moves essay contest deadline

In an effort to give more time and opportunities for students in the Philippines whose regions were affected by a recent typhoon, the deadline for submission of the entries for the Essay Contest on West Philippine Sea that is originally scheduled on Feb. 1, 2013, will be moved to Feb. 8, 2013. This decision came after the teleconference that was held Tuesday afternoon among the officials and members of USP4GG and with national chair Loida Nicolas Lewis presiding over the meeting in New York City.

‘There are many entries being received by the USP4GG Essay Contest Ad Hoc Committee from high school and college students in the different regions of the Philippines as well as from the Middle East and Saipan. Since there is more than a week extension from the deadline, I am hoping that more high school and college students will still participate in this essay contest in the Philippines and overseas. This issue is really critical nowadays, especially that the Philippines has already brought the territorial dispute issues with China to the United Nations,” said Dr. Celia B. Lamkin, chairperson of the USP4GG Marianas chapter and chair of the essay contest committee.

The winners of the contest and the awards ceremony will be held during the Global Summit of Filipinos in the Diaspora on Feb. 25-27, 2013.
