Search for missing snorkeler ends

Rescue teams ended yesterday their search for 61-year-old clinical psychologist Reinhold Armo Meister, who was swept out to sea from Obyan Beach while snorkeling late Tuesday afternoon.

“Today is the last day,” Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Thomas Blas Jr. said, referring to yesterday’s third day of the search.

Blas told Saipan Tribune yesterday afternoon that there is still no sign of the missing Meister.

Meister was reportedly last seen in the waters off Obyan Beach at 4:45pm Tuesday, wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt, a pair of yellow shorts, and a diving mask with snorkel.

The Department of Public Safety’s Boating Safety Unit, Fire Search and Rescue Unit, CNMI Homeland Security Office, the Emergency Management Office, the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam, and a U.S. Navy helicopter joined in the search.
