Victor Linan, the school bus driver for Tinian schools, was hailed as this year’s overall PSS’ Pupil Transportation Staff awardee for demonstrating commitment and dedication to service for schoolchildren.
A long-time PSS employee, Linan was bestowed the recognition by the State Board of Education and Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan, Ed.D., during a recent visit to Tinian.
Linan, who has been with the system for 22 years now and its bus driver for more than 10 years, described the award as unexpected but said he is grateful to his colleagues for their vote of confidence and trust.
According to Tinian Elementary School principal Dionne B. Santos, the "Home of the Colts" are extremely proud of Linan’s recognition.
“Victor has received the nomination for our school Pupil Transportation staff of the Year each year for the past six years. No one is more deserving of this recognition than he is. Victor is very committed and dedicated to providing quality service for our students and our school and we are very proud to have him on our team. Congratulations to you Victor! You deserve it!” said Santos.
On average, Linan transports about 50-60 students per day. He covers all public schools on Tinian, including the elementary, junior high, and high school.
When he is not transporting students to and from school, Linan assists with other responsibilities. His principal describes him as an excellent employee, dependable, reliable, and always offers to assist when he can.
Sablan, who remembers meeting Linan for the first time in 2008, also had good words for him.
“I met Victor in 2008 when I came back [to PSS] as commissioner. As a matter of fact, I rode on his bus when I was there early morning. We met and we went around picking up students. I can say he’s very friendly, has good interpersonal skills with students, and makes sure they’re good and happy,” Sablan told Saipan Tribune, describing him as an asset to the school system.
Besides Linan, Tinian Elementary also has four other outstanding employees this year. They include Jennifer San Nicolas as Teacher of the Year nominee; Teacher Aide of the Year Teresita S. Lazaro; Administrative Staff of the Year Carmen DLC. Farrell; and Trades and Maintenance of the Year Julita Diaz.
