Marianas Pacific Paddlers lent a helping hand to “Beautify My Marianas” with three cleanups on Sept. 1, 2013. Adult and junior members of the groups collected approximately 160 lbs of trash in Marpi at Wing Beach and in San Roque from PauPau Beach to Palms Resort and from Aqua Resort Club to the Tanapag Social Hall.
The Marianas Visitors Authority and Saipan Chamber of Commerce, joint administrators of the “Beautify My Marianas” program, encourage all school and non-profit groups to avail of federal funding for the program before the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30, 2013. The program offers $100 for each 1-mile cleanup in assigned areas.
“It is our pleasure to help improve the environmental quality of our community and help beautify our beaches and roadsides for the benefit of everyone,” Marianas Pacific Paddlers said in their report. “The additional opportunities to fundraise for our trip to the 2013 Micro Cup in Palau are an incredible financial help to the club.”
The group also offers to collect trash from groups and individuals along the routes and offered trash bags to picnickers for their own use. Trash collected included household items, aluminum cans, ocean debris, food and cigarette packing, plastic, and personal items.
