Laser show lights up AMP

The torrential rain did not stop people from going to the American Memorial Park Amphitheatre late Wednesday evening to witness the laser light show put on as part of activities lined up for the 60th anniversary of the World War II Battles of Saipan and Tinian.

People came armed with their umbrellas and chairs to see the many colors flickering on stage in time with the music playing in the background.

Featuring the music of famous singers in the '50s, '60s, and '70s such as Elvis Presley, KISS, and Neil Diamond, the laser light show displayed musical notes, fireworks, towers, ships, and an eagle, among other images.

It ended with the 1812 Symphony and the images of fireworks displayed on stage.

Jerry Facey, co-chair of the committee that organized the show, said: “We are honored to have sponsors who helped make this possible: Arizona Memorial Museum Association, National Park Services, 60th Commemoration Committee, and the CNMI government. Our main sponsor is Northwest Airlines.”

Richard Parsons, manager for NWA, was on hand with his family to watch the last laser show. “It's really great to see the people celebrate the dedication and sacrifices of these veterans 60 years ago.”

Several people from the crowd stayed behind to watch the show for a second time. “We think it was very nice. I enjoyed the laser show, it was well put together,” said Darlyn Babauta.

“The music was the best part of the show,” added Leovita Cabrera.
