The NMI Council for the Humanities is pleased to announce the availability of a substantial collection of historical documents associated with the three CNMI Constitutional Conventions.
Entitled “The Making of a Constitution: Documents from the Northern Mariana Islands Constitutional Conventions 1976, 1985, and 1995,” the collection comprises digital copies of approximately 31,000 pages of documents that are contained on a fully searchable DVD.
The DVD comes in a handy plastic case and is accompanied by a 20-page booklet that provides an overview of the collection and instructions on how to view and search files.
These documents include records associated with the election of delegates and the organization of each convention, briefing materials prepared for delegates, daily journals of the convention proceedings, delegate proposals, committee reports, draft constitutional provisions and amendments, and records covering the submission of the constitutional provisions to the people for approval.
The documents were collected, organized and digitized by a council-funded project directed by Deanne Siemer and Alicia Deleon Guerrero.
The council has commenced distribution of this collection to schools, libraries, archives and other public repositories in the Commonwealth and the Micronesian region so that it may be widely available for public use.
Individuals and organizations interested in obtaining a copy of this collection at a minimal price are invited to contact the Humanities Council at 235-4785.
The council is a private, non-profit corporation established in 1991. Its mission is to support quality humanities programs for the people of the Commonwealth. (PR)
