A total of 1,360 civil cases and 351 criminal cases filed the past seven years at the Superior Court remain pending, according to the 2006 State of the Judiciary Report.
The Judiciary Report also indicates that new criminal cases have significantly dropped in the seven-year period or from 2000 to 2006.
In that period, 4,421 civil cases were filed, with 3,061 of those cases disposed of, translating to a 69 percent disposition rate.
Of the 610 civil cases filed in 2000, 95 remain pending.
At the end of 2006, 124 of the cases still pending were filed in 2001; 156 in 2002; 154 in 2003; 213 in 2004; 226 in 2005; and 392 in 2006.
These bring the total to 1,360 civil cases that remain pending.
As for criminal cases, a total of 2,970 were filed from 2000 to 2006. A total of 2,619 were disposed of, for a disposition rate of 88 percent.
In 2000, 578 were filed with two cases pending by the end of 2006.
At the end of 2006, four cases filed in 2001 are still pending; 30 from 2002; 36 from 2003; 46 from 2004; 69 from 2005; and 164 from 2006.
These bring the total to 351 criminal cases that remain pending.
The Report said the data shows that new criminal cases have been declining each year since 2000 when 578 cases were filed, compared to only 274 in 2006-a 53-percent decrease.
