Francis Santos, the consulting associate administrator for StayWell Insurance, will be the featured speaker at the March membership meeting of the Society for Human Resource Management CNMI Chapter on March 26.
Santos will be presenting important information on the newly enacted requirements under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, COBRA. COBRA provides workers, who have lost or changed employment, the right to continue the group health benefits provided by their former employer's group health plan for themselves and their family for a limited period of time and under certain circumstances.
The recent American Recovery Reinvestment Act, the so-called stimulus law, includes significant changes that employers must implement immediately and includes retroactive notifications back to Sept. 1, 2008. These changes to heath care benefits under COBRA, including federal subsidies for continued health care coverage, will be discussed at the SHRM meeting, along with other important facets of COBRA.
The Chapter meeting will be held at Charley's Cabaret, Pacific Islands Club Saipan on Thursday, March 26, 2009. Doors open at 11:15am for registration. The cost for members is $20 and $30 for non-SHRM members (government purchase orders accepted). Cost includes lunch and materials.
