Saipan mayor-elect Donald Glen P. Flores has formed a transition team to ensure the smooth handover of the municipality’s administration come January.
The 19-person team will be working with outgoing Mayor Juan B. Tudela from Dec. 9 to Dec. 16, 2009.
Members of the transition team who are currently employed with the local or central government have been allowed to go on leave during the transition period, said team chair Jeff Tomakane.
Besides Tomokane, other team officers are vice chair Kimo Rosario and team advisers Henry Hofschneider, Sid Cabrera, Vic Pangelinan, and Ray Guerrero. The team will also have subcommittees.
Flores said that Tomakane and his team were given a week to gather information and conduct a fact-finding investigation on what the new mayor will need to focus on once he takes office in January.
Because no money was allocated for this purpose, the team members are all working as volunteers. “The team was selected based on their help during the campaign and I believe they can do the job,” said Flores.
He said he expects the team to work cohesively and work well with the incumbent mayor. “I would like to extend my appreciation to the present mayor Tudela for allowing this transition to go through,” said Flores.
Tomokane, for his part, said, “The mayor-elect wishes to have a smooth and informative transition.”
Tomakane will finalize the team’s report before submitting it to Flores.
