Saipan has camels-at Immanuel United Methodist Church

During Immanuel United Methodist Church's Jan. 31st “Time with Our Children” wise ones rode (scooted) their camels to Bethlehem. From left to right: Barbara Petura, Helen Carhill and Garrett Borja. (Bryan Jones) The Immanuel United Methodist Church has been re-celebrating Christmas. Jan. 24th focused on the joy and hope of the shepherds. In “Time with Our Children,” young shepherd boy Garrett Borja “walked six miles” to find Baby Jesus in the manger (made by Dale Carhill).

Garrett gave Jesus the only thing a shepherd boy had-his scarf and his pet lamb-to keep Jesus warm. When Mary and Joseph saw how very much Garrett loved his lamb they showed their love by asking him to keep it and thanked him for his scarf.

Last Sunday focused on the Wise Men, forgiving, and peace. In “Time with Our Children” the little wise ones studied the stars for a new one announcing Jesus' birth. In accordance with lay pastor Millie Carroll's story, they knew they needed to share hurts, forgive and cooperatively stick together in the desert to keep from getting lost.

Mark Deala then lifted volunteers Barbara, Helen and Garrett onto their camels and they scooted cooperatively for “up to two years” following the star to Bethlehem.

The camels were created by Mary Deala, Grace Dowez, Fina Rogayawa, Melissa Borja, WuMian and Eric Wang.

Lay pastor Millie Carroll said, “It is especially meaningful as we think together about peace to remember the Wise Men, now believed to be astrologers from Iraq and Iran. Bryan Jones and JunMei Wang were asked to light the peace candle because of their work to end war and bring world peace. Instead of being a warrior king most then hoped for, Jesus came for peace, not war.”

This coming Sunday focuses on love and angels with Mary Deala, Fina Rogoyawa and Melissa Borja opening the service with religious dance to Hark the Herald Angels Sing, with special choir/guitar accompaniment music and Betty Busacay singing O Holy Night and ending with procession of the Peace Star (made by Mary). This is the final Sunday focusing on Christmas.

“Although we might again before December! Since all began with Christ's birth, re-celebrating Advent and Christmas is very meaningful,” added Carroll.

IUMC warmly invites readers to this multi-aged Re-celebration Worship Service at 9am, Feb. 5. The IUMC in Chalan Kanoa is on Chalan Kanoa Street and Barbara Avenue (east of Town Center and Beach Road, near Mount Carmel Catholic Church). For more information, call 322-6158. (PR)
