Fourteen teams are still waiting to debut in the 2012 DLX/Gualo Rai Invitational Basketball League as rain halted action at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.
So far, only two games were completed in the DLX caging with Brgy. San Antonio beating defending champion KFC/Taco Bell, 73-65, during the league opener last Saturday and Anjie's Boys edging QQ Rent A Car in the second game last weekend, 71-68.
Last Monday, four more teams were scheduled to play their first game in the second edition of the DLX caging this year, however rained caused suspension of the doubleheader. Freestyl was set to debut over LD Prime in the 6pm match, while Zhailas was slated to challenge Highway Express in the second game.
Yesterday, four more squads were hoping to resume action at the Gualo Rai court. It rained almost the entire day and at press time the 6pm start of the Blue Haus-Mawati tiff was delayed as league officials and volunteers were drying up the court. Also last night, Docomo was scheduled to face Looban in the second game.
Wit the CNMI Emergency Management Office reporting that “isolated thunderstorms will continue through Friday night with southwest winds persisting through the weekend,” teams which have yet to play in the DLX caging will have to wait for a better weather to start their respective campaigns in the 18-team league.
The 18 teams battling for the championship are divided into two groups. Pool A has the KFC/Taco Bell, San Antonio, Mawati, Blue Haus, Zhailas, Highway Express, Playboy, MBI, and Hip Hop, while Anjie's Boys, QQ, Freestyl, LD Prime, Docomo, Looban, Gualo Rai, 360 Church, and San Roque are in Pool B.
360 Church and San Roque are scheduled to play in tomorrow's curtain raiser at 6pm, while Playboy is set to debut against MBI in the late night match. Then in the first game on Saturday, Hip Hop will be up for a tough test against San Antonio. Anjie's Boys will also have its second game this Saturday as it faces Gualo Rai at 8pm.
Each team will play eight games in the regular season and cuts will be made, however, the number of squads making it to the playoffs will be determined later.
