(Ferdie Dela Torre) NMC Proa outclassed DYS, 75-58, during an exhibition game played in Ayuda Network Inc.'s 20th Anniversary Family Fun Day last Saturday at the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe.

A second-quarter juggernaut helped NMC Proa cruise past DYS, as the former scored 23 points against the latter's 9, turning a two-point lead, 10-8, to a big 33-17 halftime advantage.

The Edward Manalili-coached NMC Proa leaned on its balance offense in the second-period breakaway and played steady in the second half en route to the 17-point victory. John Capuyon had 6 points in the second quarter, Karlo De Leon, Brandon Regis, and Ethan Manalili added four apiece, Kobee Mendoza canned a triple, and Ivan Sanarez and Edilberto Javier contributed two points each.

DYS, which made only four field goals in the first period, continued to struggle in the second, drilling only three field goals and getting its three other points from the foul line. Again, coach Manalili drew contributions from every player he fielded in the game in the third period to keep the double-digit lead. Six of NMC Proa's eight players lit up the scoreboard in the third period to seize a huge lead, entering the fourth and final canto. Ethan Manalili had the biggest output in the third frame with his 8 points.

In the fourth period, DYS had his best offensive showing, sizzling for points 26 points, however it was not enough to overhaul NMC Proa's lead.

Ethan Manalili led NMC Proa with his 22 points, while De Leon and Capuyon also finished in twin digits with 15 and 10, respectively. Sanarez added 7, Mendoza posted 5, and Regis and Javier combined for 6.

NMC Proa's roster was composed of the core of the CNMI U17 National B Team that played in the Micronesian Basketball Tournament on Saipan in May this year and finished third in the U20 division of the UFO Docomo Pacific Cup last month.

The Abner Venus-coached DYS squad had majority of the players of the DYS/SMF team that won the U14 crown in the UFO Docomo Pacific Cup.
