Brgy. San Antonio and LD Prime notched their third win after whipping separate foes in the 2012 DLX/Gualo Rai Invitational Basketball League last Friday at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.
San Antonio played in the second game and recovered from a 73-78 loss to Zhaila's All Starz with a 91-68 spanking of Wushin Express (1-1).
The young and fast crew of San Antonio got things going early in the game to take a 22-12 advantage and padded their lead in the next three quarters en route to the 23-point win.
Nevin Salem, Bryl Alegre, Jack Aranda, and Jun Tabora made at least two field goals each in the opening canto to give San Antonio the early double-digit lead. While San Antonio had a balance offense, Wushin Express relied heavily on Ivan Devero, who was the only player on his team to score more than two points in the first quarter.
Wushin's offense was so predictable that all San Antonio had to do were met Devero at the top key and clogged the driving lane to neutralize him and retain control of the match.
San Antonio managed to held Devero to only one field goal in the second period and then drew eight straight points from Melvin Cadiang off the bench to stretch the lead to 11 at halftime, 45-34.
The margin ballooned to as high as 25 points in the third period, as San Antonio continued to run a balance offense, while Wushin kept on leaning on Devero. Then in the fourth period, Wushin made a little headway, moving within 15, 63-78. However, Adrian Palacios reported back into the game and drilled 8 markers in the final half of the fourth canto to foil Wushin's comeback bid.
Palacios top-scored for San Antonio (3-1) with 16 points, while Tabora added 14 and Cadiang and Salem chipped in 13. Aranda and Alegre completed San Antonio's balance attack as they were just one point short of scoring in double figures.
Devero as expected led Wushin with 22 points, while Rocyl Ritual and Raymark Castro contributed 11 apiece, but scored most of their points when the game was already over. Ferdie Tobias had a quiet 8-point production and the rest of Wushin players combined for only 11 markers. Wushin played without Pete Lizama.
LD Prime 93, Docomo/Yuichiro 74
In the curtain raiser, LD Prime gained its third win in as many games in Pool B after routing Docomo/Yuichiro.
The match was close at the half with Docomo (0-3) behind by only 8, 35-43, but LD Prime had a 25-13 scoring in the third period to open a big 20-point lead, 68-48. Myler Magtuloy and Syl Teregeyo teamed up in LD Prime's third-quarter breakaway with the former nailing 8 points and the latter adding 7.
Docomo never recovered from thereon, as it had only Badong Camacho consistently making his shots in the fourth canto. He finished with a game-high 26 markers.
White Capalad paced LD Prime with his 25 points, tallying 9 in the opening quarter to keep his team afloat, 17-19. Teregeyo, who was scoreless in the first period, helped Capalad out on offense in the second canto and LD Prime went on to grab the lead at the break, 43-35. Teregeyo and Capalad totaled for 13 points in the second frame where LD Prime outgunned Docomo, 26-16.
