Newcomer wins CWGA August Ace

Jeon actually tied Sun Suk Kim for first place, as they recorded similar net scores of 72 in the Aug. 11 monthly tournament held at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort, but the former was declared the winner via the club's secret hole scorecard tiebreaker ground rule.

With the victory, Jeon now joins the company of Ace monthly champions Noriko Togawa (May), Xiao Lin Wang (June), and Sherlyn Jones (July).

Jeon hit the ground running during a few required preliminary rounds earlier in the season and although it was not a big surprise that she would eventually qualify into the season-ending Ace of Aces spectacle, she was still impressive in her debut. New CWGA members must complete a certain number of rounds in order to determine their handicap values before being eligible to compete.

Jeon had her first tournament on the west course and hit the turn in first place with a 41, tying eventual fourth placer Masayo Miyamoto. Jeon then played even better on the back nine with her 38, while Miyamoto faded down the homestretch and scratched a 45 for an 86 gross.

Sun Suk Kim trailed Miyamoto and Jeon by just two strokes at the midpoint and roared through the back nine with an even 36 to tie Jeon's raw total of 79. The co-leaders coincidentally shared handicaps of 7, leaving them tied anew in the low net category (72), so club ground rules had to break the tie.

Joining Jeon and Sun Suk Kim in the Top 3 was Mio Kim, who finished three strokes behind the former. Mio Kim had a gross 86, built from a 46 and 40 on the from and back nines, respectively, and deducting her 11 handicap, she finished with a net 75.

Meanwhile, CWGA would like to welcome two other new members-Mina Park and Yinnu Cai.
