Sonics rout LD Prime in U20

Sonics' Bryl Alegre makes a strong move to the basket against LD Prime's center Benjie Pelegrino in Wednesday's SRCYBL U20 age division matchup held in Guilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. (Walter Cepeda-Sutherland) The Sonics creamed LD Prime, 68-37, in Wednesday's Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League U20 division matchup at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

In addition, Rotary's U16 season is set to resume this morning at the Ada Gym starting at 9am with RBC's D-South (0-1) taking on sister squad Rollers 1 (1-0), followed by the CNMI junior national girls team against RBC's Rollers 2 (1-0) at 10:15am. Proa (1-0) will end the games against Hi-5 (0-1) at 11:30am.

The Sonics boomed out of the gate and amassed an early 28-7 lead in the opening 10 minutes. Paul Mariano led seven other contributors with 8 points in the first quarter and the group trudged ahead, 44-13, after the second period.

The Sonics spread the ball around for another generous yield provided by seven different pairs of hands. Ezra Caro and Adrian Palacios led the group with a couple of baskets apiece.

LD Prime managed to more or less equal its first half production in the third quarter, but the Sonics remained way in front and coasted to a 56-25 advantage heading into the final period.

Sonics' Jimmy Tudela signed off the win with 6 markers in the fourth quarter to finish with a game-high 12, while LD Prime's Lawrence Rollon turned in 10 under duress.

Sonics 68 - Tudela 12, Mariano 10, Deguzman 8, Caro 8, Alegre 7, Palacios 6, Javier 4, Del Rosario 4, Villanueva 2.

LD Prime 37 - Rollon 10, Esteves 7, Pelegrino 4, David 4, Gunnacho 4, Aldan 4, Espinosa 2, Quemado 2.

Scoring by quarters: 28-7, 44-13, 56-25, 68-37.
