Larry Pascual and Raffy Piamonte won the A and B divisions of Fil-Taga Golfers Association's November of the Month and Turkey Shootout tournament held last Sunday at the Marianas Country Club.
The feats warranted the pair a turkey and a modest cash prize in addition to a berth into the club's finale Ace of Aces tournament, slated for January 2013.
The A class includes members who hold a handicap of 16 or lower, while the B field consists of golfers with handicaps allocated at 17 and above.
Pascual hit the turn with a raw 44 last weekend and finished the back nine strong with a 38 for a gross tally of 82 that was adjusted to a field-low 69-net score.
He bested 11 other A division players and won four strokes against Jhun Calma (73 net, 86 gross) who settled for runner-up honors. Third placer Nazareno Ortic Jr. also fired a 73 net (87 gross) but lost on a scorecard tiebreak.
Piamonte scratched an even 50 on his card after the first nine holes and improved his game on the backside by three strokes for a 97 raw count that was trimmed down to a 73 net score to rule the B division.
He defeated a handful of other B contenders by two strokes as Arnold Galang (102 gross) slid into the passenger seat just ahead of Joseph Fernandez (98) who netted a 77.
Runners-up Calma and Galang also received turkeys as consolation prizes.
Notably, Pascual bagged closest to the pin honors in hole No. 16 in the process, while William Retardo's tee shot earned the nod in hole No. 6, Jhun Ortiz won hole No. 8 and Paul Bea took the prize in hole No. 12.
The victors joined January's A and B Aces Richard Atalig and James Mitchell, February's Randy Tudela, March's Bea, April A and B's Retardo and Ruben Avendano, May's Lito Mendoza, June's Adony Matuitino, July's Mando Guban, August's Nestor Siruelo, September's Dan Ganacias, and October's Calma.
Filtaga's December event is scheduled for Dec. 9. The location is still being determined. Show time is set for noon with a 12:30pm tee off.
There is a required greens fee of $30 in addition to a $15 contribution, which will go toward the prize money.
Fil-Taga tournaments are held once a month usually on the third Sunday of each month. In addition to a berth into the finale event, the winners also receive a modest cash prize; a $300 prize also goes to anyone who manages to sink a hole-in-one.
If more than 20 golfers turn out for an event, two ace winners will be recognized as the group is divided into two separate fields.
New members must pay half of the initial required annual fee ($50), excluding monthly green fees, in order to join the club. The group uses an USGA approved computer-based handicap system, which is regularly updated on their website, www.filtaga.com.
All dues must be settled to be eligible for prizes.
