Young fighters in 'Collision' course

Youth will be served when up-and-coming fighters Chris “No Luv” Laayug of Saipan and Jon “The Heat” Delos Reyes square off in one of the undercards of Trench Warz X: Collision set for July 31 at the Saipan World Resort

Laayug, who will be fighting out of Trench Tech Purebred Saipan MMA, holds a 5-win, 1-loss record inside the cage.

Trench Tech owner and promoter Cuki Alvarez said his ward has been training in MMA for just two years and is considered one of the top 145-lb. fighters in the CNMI.

Laayug debuted in Rites of Passage IV: The Uproar and had seen action in Trench Warz VII: Kontra and Rites of Passage V: Raging Warriors as the main event.

The latter fight saw him win via unanimous decision against fellow up-and-comer Derrick “El Peligro” Rangamar. His latest fight was in Rites of Passage VII: Fist of Fury held last May 23. Laayug suffered his lone defeat in PXC XV: Dead Game.

“At just 19 years old, Chris has a long MMA career ahead of him. He's definitely one of the fighters to watch for in the future,” said Alvarez.

Fighting out of Team Countershot, meanwhile, is Delos Reyes, who won his debut in PXC Live.

Alvarez said that although Delos Reyes has only one fight under his belt, the Guamanian is sure to give Laayug a very tough run.

“Training under the tutelage of Guam's gold medalist in Pacific Games in Tae Kwon Do, Sonny Chargualaf (who will also see action that night in a kickboxing bout in Trench Tech X), Jon is a young up-and-comer in MMA and also holds a 1-win, no loss record in kickboxing as well which he also recorded in PXC Live,” he said.

“At only 21 years old, Jon is noted as being 'the next big thing' in the 145-lb. class in Guam. This will be a very exciting match between these two 145ers. I know it will be a very energetic, fast-paced fight which will be pleasing to all in attendance,” added Alvarez.

The Laayug-Delos Reyes bout will serve as appetizer to three big fights, which will be highlighted by the main event between Saipan's Kevin “The Big Hit” Fitial of Marianas Elite and Guam's Manny “The Enforcer” Chong of THUGCOP.

The other scheduled fights are the following:

Team Lockdown's Eric “The Terror” Tedtaotao vs. Marianas Elite's Myron “The Natural” San Nicolas in the 240-lb. super heavyweight division semi main event;

XTREME's “Kill” Bill Saures vs. Da Crew 671's Mike “Ogre” Davis in the big brawl;

Spike 22/Ground Fu's Tony “Rush” Reyes vs. Tanapag Beach Badd Boiz/Team Zogai's Ryan Gardee in the 140-lb. division;

Spike 22/Ground Fu's Jun “Shockeraba” San Nicolas vs. Marianas Elite's Martin Ayuyu in the 130-b. division;

Trench Tech's Slade “The Rage” Adelbai vs. Team Psycho MMA's Toby “Big Tobz” Mesa in the 190-lb. division;

Team Subdue's “Infamous” Ray Apiag vs. Predator Combat Team's Nate “The Terrible” Flores in the 155-lb. division; and

Team Subdue's Gilbert “Guamaniac” Meno vs. Team Zogai's Shane “Insane” Camacho in the 180-lb. division;

Chargualaf of Team Countershot, meanwhile, will duke it out against Maitai “The Charger” Charley of Marianas Elite in the evening's special kickboxing bout.

Tickets for Trench Warz X: Collision will go on sale soon. General admission costs $25 and VIP is $35. Alvarez said doors will open at 7pm with the fights starting at 8pm.
