Monroyo) Pacific Islands Club's Finance Department reigned supreme in its own turf, beating Just the Tip in the finals of the 2009 PIC Fall Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday on the PIC tennis court.

PIC-Finance's smaller, but quicker crew prevailed over the taller, but easier target bets of Just The Tip to rule the weekend tournament that drew teams from the host hotel, private companies, group of friends, and even off-island participants.

The eventual champion team was composed of John Ricafort, Jesse Tenorio, Rueben Olgeril, Alphonsus Temael, Phil George, Anne Capelle, Vicky Benavente, Anna Villadiego, Peter Babauta, and Mar Flores.

The weekend event had a single-elimination format with each match played for three minutes. Each team is allowed to have 10 players on the court and the squad that have more players left standing after three minutes wins the game. A match can also end in less than three minutes if one team runs out of players on the court.

The tournament started with a draw among 17 teams. The Wedding Party, which participated in the parade of teams in their “wedding outfit” with Becca Newman and Jason Schroeder as bride and groom and Chris Nelson as “officiating priest,” drew a bye in the first round.

The Wedding Party, which had Linda Anastacio, Russ Quinn, Tyce and Angie Mister, Yosh and Nikki Gabaldon, and Dave and Leanne Loan as part of the entourage, then met erstwhile champion Ardija in the second round and won.

Ardija prevailed in its first match against Island Apparel before losing to The Wedding Party. Other winners in the first round were Just the Tip against Rotary Dodgers, PIC Finance vs. Off the Light, That Just Happened vs. G4S, Team DFS 670 vs. PIC House keeping, Culinary One vs. the Ideal Camouflage Team, Kadu KuKadu Ka vs. Xtreme Dodgers, and Culinary Two vs. Miller Lite Brew Crew.

In the quarterfinals, The Wedding Party was paired against Team DFS 670 and the former won, anew to advance to the semifinals. Also earning semis tickets were Just the Tip, PIC-Finance, and That Just Happened. Just the Tip won over the Ideal Camouflage Team, PIC-Finance downed Kadu Ku Kadu Ka, and That Just Happened defeated Culinary Two.

PIC-Finance and Just the Tip then arranged their championship duel after slipping past The Wedding Party and That Just Happened in the semifinals, respectively.

The runner-up Just the Tip had Dale Roberts, Rob Jordan, Nick Gross, Pete Houk, Justin Mariano, James Ehler, Cassie Halverson, Jennifer Backhaus, and Jennifer daSilva as members.

The champion team went home with an especially designed trophy, while others who made it to the Top 3 received cash prizes and gift certificates from tournament sponsors.
