QUEZON CITY, Philippines-The Filipino Channel, more commonly known as TFC, and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas forged on June 27, 2012, a partnership that will further strengthen the ties of the estimated 10 million Filipino migrants worldwide to the Philippines.
According to Raffy Lopez, chief operating officer of ABS-CBN Global Ltd., TFC has long recognized the importance of reaching the growing overseas Filipino population.
“As the largest communications network that pioneered in providing up-to-date information on the Philippines and its diaspora communities, our decision to link up with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas is a strategic move,” Lopez said in his speech. “Together, we hope to equip them for a life far different from their lives in the Philippines, guide them in their journey and to continue to be their pillar of strength as they trudge the unsteady, early stages of life as an overseas Filipino. In all these, CFO and TFC have found specific ways to bring our efforts together.”
The CFO, a 32-year-old government agency under the Office of the President, will work closely with TFC to improve their frontline services for departing migrants such as direct hires, spouses or partners of foreign nationals, reuniting petitioned families, and exchange visitor program participants.
CFO chair Imelda Nicolas said that “with this memorandum of agreement with TFC, the network joins CFO in our collective desire to provide good governance to the Filipino people, wherever they may be. .With TFC, the overseas Filipino community feels closer to home and is updated on what is happening in the Philippines and hopefully will be informed about the programs and activities the Philippine government is undertaking especially through our agency.”
“Specifically, TFC captured migrants' post arrival anxieties, job search experiences, bouts of loneliness and eventual adjustments in vignettes titled “Ako ang TFC.” The video clips aim to show the reality that beset migrants as well as how TFC can help ease their resettlement concerns. These will also make Pre-Departure Orientation Seminars more realistic since these are authentic accounts from Canada, Australia, the United States and other destinations under the TFC umbrella,” said Nicolas.
Nicolas and Lopez were joined by ABS-CBN Global Ltd. Chief Marketing Officer Jojo Ines, CFO media consultant Anna Leah Sarabia, Admin & Finance Division chief Regina Galias, and ABS-CBN Global Ltd. Manila country manager Edson Aguiflor at the MOA signing at the Eugenio Lopez Communications Center.
The joint efforts of TFC and the CFO as well as the alignment of their respective vision and mission will increase the promotion and protection of the welfare of overseas Filipinos. (PR)
