The United Filipino Organization is preparing for its annual election of officers in November.
Bong Malasarte, president of the network of 30 Filipino groups in the Commonwealth, stressed the importance of the upcoming election, saying that this is the opportunity for their membership to select individuals who would lead the organization in fulfilling its mission.
“It will be up to the new set of leaders to carry on the projects and activities in the community that the UFO is known for,” he told Saipan Tribune.
While the election will be held in November, Malasarte pointed out that the elected officers will serve in their new capacity beginning 2013.
Malasarte said he is ready to step down his post after a challenging yet productive year serving as president.
Malasarte, who is also president of MDX Amateur Radio Club, was elected along with other 2012 officers in February 2011.
During his term, Malasarte led UFO in conducting its signature activities for the community, including their participation in the annual Mt. Tapochao trek every Good Friday, Pistang Pinoy or Filipino Fiesta, Philippine Independence Day celebration, involvement in the Fourth of July festivities, and the Inter-Organizational Basketball League.
His leadership also introduced the first Pusong Pinoy event last February. Malasarte's last activity for his term would be the Paskong Pinoy event this December.
