Tinian Mayor Francisco M. Borja recently announced the degree accomplishments of a Tinian resident, Joey P. San Nicolas.
San Nicolas, 29, received his juris doctor degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. At WMCL, San Nicolas also worked as a research assistant in areas of constitutional criminal procedure and immigration.
San Nicolas received his bachelor’s degree in 1994 from Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii.
His work experiences include the Seventh Tinian Municipal Council and the CNMI Department of Commerce on Tinian.
San Nicolas was also a delegate in the Third Constitutional Convention in 1995, and served extensively on the Marianas Public Land Trust Board and CNMI Scholarship Board representing Tinian. He is currently working at the Commonwealth Legislature as a legal intern.
When asked about the most rewarding thing about his experience, San Nicolas said, “Surviving three Minnesota winters was rewarding in itself.” He added, “Seriously, knowing that I have another tool to help fix things—whether they be legal or non-legal—is probably the most rewarding aspect of gaining a law degree.” San Nicolas’ advice to the youth is to “work hard and don’t give up.”
San Nicolas is the son of Petra P. San Nicolas and Ramon R. Sablan.
