Back-to-back wins for Docomo Red

Docomo Red's Daryl Suarez rips down a rebound during their game against Agape in the U17 division of the Docomo youth caging last Monday at the Garapan Basketball Court. (Walter Sutherland) Docomo Red gained two straight wins at the resumption of the 3rd Docomo Pacific Sumer Youth Basketball League at the Garapan Basketball Court.

Docomo first downed Sixers (1-4) last Saturday, 50-17, and then breezed past Agape (0-4), 69-46, in the U17 division match last Monday. The wins were much needed, as Docomo dropped three games at the start of the youth caging, which had rained-out games last week.

In other U17 results, Rollers 16B (2-3) held on to get past IT&E Rollers B (2-3), 35-32, in the weekend opener, while Monday's first matchup resulted in a forfeit victory for still unbeaten Loving Hands (4-0) over the Sixers. Completing the field is co-frontrunner Proa (4-0).

U25 division action is scheduled to resume at the Garapan court this Friday at 5:30pm with the first place Shottas (4-0) taking on the Saints (3-1) and the Peace Makers (1-3) facing GVH (1-3). The R-Rebels (3-1), the Rollers (2-2), Safety 1st (0-3), and Hi-5 (0-3) make up the rest of the U25 division.

John Darag motored his way to a 19-point outburst in the first half to put Docomo Red ahead, 33-20, at midpoint of Monday's match. Allan Yu had a 10-point string late in the period to provide some hope for Agape going into the break.

Yu delivered 8 more early in the second frame, but Agape ran out of gas against Docomo Red's well-balanced offense. Docomo Red drained a handful of three pointers late in the game and did a good job using its possessions to dictate the pace of the match.

Two of the treys came from Stacey Macaranas, who finished off Agape with his 16 markers in the clutch. Macaranas and Darag teamed up for 42 points, while Yu scrambled for 20 on the short end.

Against the Sixers last Saturday, Docomo Red contained its foe to only one basket for a big 30-2 halftime lead.

Tony Bai and John Darag combined for 22 points in the early surge and Docomo Red did not let up in transition and rode off into the night with the rout in hand.

Darag led Docomo Red with 15 points and finished just a bucket shy of the Sixers' total.

In Saturday's opener, Rollers 16B's Melvin Deocares and Braylan Floresca hooked up for 17 points in the opening 16 minutes to give their team a 21-13 cushion at the half. IT&E Rollers B's Kyle Rios and CJ Morales mounted a late comeback and almost stole the show before falling short in the end. The young IT&E duo actually accounted for every drop of their team's offense with Rios scoring 19 points and Morales adding 13.
