Kiss My Pass slips past IDK Who

IDK Who's Jhaneeka Atalig, front, tries to save the ball from going out of the baseline, while Kiss My Pass' Angie Ito looks on during their game in the Kanoa Resort caging last Wednesday night at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium. (Roselyn B. Monroyo) Kiss My Pass withstood IDK Who's second half rally to escape with a 54-52 victory in their debut game in the 2012 Kanoa Resort Women's Fall Basketball League last Wednesday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium of the TSL Sports Complex.

Jeraldine Castillo drained rally-halting baskets in the fourth period to thwart IDK Who's repeated comeback bids. Castillo scored 10 of her 26 points in the payoff quarter, including three crucial free throws that seal the win. The Kiss My Pass shooting guard fired her 7 other markers also in succession in the fourth canto.

Playing in their first game of the season, both teams struggled early with Kiss My Pass only making four field goals to fall behind at the end of the first period, 8-12. Only Jeraldine Castillo scored more than two points for Kiss My Pass, as Mae Ito and Jayda Mendoza contributed just one basket each in the opening canto.

Lalaine Pagarao got things going for IDK Who in the first frame, as she scored half of their total points for their 4-point lead.

However, Kiss My Pass wiped out the deficit and went on to take a 34-21 halftime advantage after having a breakout game in the second period. Kiss My Pass exploded for 26 points against the only 9 of IDK Who. Jeraldine Castillo logged 12 points in the scoring spree, including back-to-back triples late in the second canto, while Ito, Dianne Pablo, and Jeralyn Castillo contributed 4 points apiece.

Jeraldine Castillo was then held to one field goal in the third quarter and her lackluster offense rubbed off her teammates, as Kiss My Pass also got only two points each from Charlene Lizado and Mikky Vargas.

With Kiss My Pass going cold in the third, IDK Who managed to slice the lead to 4, 36-40, with a full quarter to go. IDK drew points from five different players in the third canto to threaten Kiss My Pass.

In the fourth quarter, the scoring was pretty even with IDK Who nailing 16 against Kiss My Pass' 14. However, IDK failed to neutralize Jeraldine Castillo in the payoff canto and the Marianas High School mainstay delivered the killer blows in the homestretch to give Kiss My Pass the win in its debut.

Kiss My Pass 54 - Jeraldine Castillo 26, Pablo 6, Ito 6, Vargas 4, Jeralyn Castillo 4, Garon 2, Lizardo 2, Mendoza 2.

IDK Who 52 - Pagarao 20, Padilla 7, Rastguiy 7, Iriarte 6, Atalig 6, Yiu 4.

Scoring by quarters: 8-12, 34-21, 40-36, 54-52.
