A new talk show focusing on issues affecting the Filipino community in the CNMI and inspiring life stories of workers will soon hit TV screens with the premiere of Usapang Pinoy this month.
Produced by Digital Motion, Usapang Pinoy primarily aims to provide the Filipino community a venue to access factual information about the latest issues and happenings in the Commonwealth.
“The concept of the show came about as a result of misinformation regarding many critical issues in the community, which in turn causes confusion among our kababayans. Usapang Pinoy will provide accurate information to the public to allow them to make informed choices,” said Edwin Sta. Theresa, director and scriptwriter.
Sta. Theresa noted that besides being an informative show, Usapang Pinoy also seeks to inspire and bring hope to Filipino workers in the Northern Marianas with real-life stories and successes of individuals who have business ventures in the CNMI or back in the Philippines.
“We cannot be employees and workers always, that's why our show will also promote the rewards of starting one's own business,” he said.
Airing Thursdays and Sundays beginning Sept. 16 on Channel 14, Usapang Pinoy is hosted by Annamae Adaza and Michelle Villaraza, with Fr. Celso Magbanua Jr. as adviser and Kevin Jardinero as cameraman.
Sta. Theresa said the production team already taped six episodes, with the pilot episode to feature Consul General Medardo Macaraig who will talk about the imminent closure of the Consulate.
Other future guests include Philippine Overseas Labor Office officer-in-charge Julia Fabian, Pats Bautista, DJ Zyra, Bads Camacho, Karen Villaraza, Pacific Islands Club's Paul Dujua, and Danny Banez who started his own karate studio on island.
Sta. Theresa disclosed that they will be taping on Monday an episode that will feature Guam Consul General Bayani Mangibin, who will lead the Agana Consulate in taking over the consular responsibilities of the Saipan Consulate. Mangibin is scheduled to arrive Monday with Consul Gary Auxilian.
Usapang Pinoy will have a premiere night for its sponsors, including telecommunications company IT&E, and other invited guests on Sept. 13, Thursday, at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center Theater from 6pm to 7:30pm.
“We invite the Filipino community to watch and support Usapang Pinoy, a show that promises viewers engaging discussions and heartfelt accounts of Filipinos in the Marianas,” said Sta. Theresa.
