PALIKIR, Pohnpei-The Samahang Tagalog Atbp. sa Ponape, or STAP, awarded scholarships to seven College of Micronesia-FSM students at the National Campus on Sept. 6, 2012.
The scholarship recipients were Leola Primo, Laura Fujimoto, Cory Kustin, Gracelyn Shirai, Andrea Ratloilug, Mary Joyce Pulmano, Tiffany Sanchez and COM-FSM Alumni and fourth-year University of Hawaii at Hilo student LaShauna Wilson. STAP has been awarding scholarships to COM-FSM students for the past 12 years.
On behalf of the college, president Joseph M. Daisy, Ed.D. thanked the STAP officers and its members for their generosity.
After hearing about the students’ future dreams, Daisy said that he was inspired. "It makes me want to work hard for the college and for all of you. You’re talking about giving back, and that’s so important. And that’s what these generous people are working for to raise funds for you. They work hard to raise those funds. So someday, it will be your chance to give back, maybe the same way, or maybe in other ways," he said.
The Samahang Tagalog Atbp. sa Ponape is a regional association of Filipinos in Pohnpei. The primary purpose of the STAP scholarship assistance is to encourage Micronesian citizens to pursue a post-high school education by providing scholarship assistance to eligible applicants.
The STAP officers present during the awarding ceremony were president Jojo Maglaqui, vice president Jean Maglaqui, and members Ray Musada, Nelchor Permitez, Lyn Faustino, Rhea Joy Guiriba, and Rafael Pulmano. (COM-FSM)
