Aqua Walk set for Sept. 15

The Marianas Walking Association and IT&E are inviting the community to take part in the Aqua Walk on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Free registration starts at 6:30am for the walk, which will commence at the Aquarius Beach Tower beachfront. Special Aqua Walk shirts will be given to participants until supplies last.

“This is a unique walking event because we do it in the water,” MWA board member Hiroko Tajima said yesterday.

Tajima noted, however, that those who want to walk but do not like to do so in the water can still participate by walking along the beachside.

The Commonwealth Cancer Association recently confirmed its participation in the walk, said Tajima.

“We're expecting about 50 to 100 participants for the walk, and they would include our members, IT&E employees and their families,” she told Saipan Tribune.

MWA has been hosting the Aqua Walk for about a decade now, said Tajima. In the last three or four years, the walk has become a collaboration between the walking group and the telecommunications company.

Aqua Walk is usually scheduled every July. This year, though, it had to be moved to September because of the tides.

“If it's too high, it would be very difficult to walk in the water,” explained.

Aqua Walk is one of the six walks that MWA organizes annually. The others are the Valentine Walk in February, Sophia Walk in May, Foundation Walk in August, Turkey Walk in November, and the Christmas Walk coordinated with the Marianas Visitors Authority every December.

For more information, call Tajima at 287-8780, Bea Quitugua at 285-1694 or Hiroko Tenorio at 483-0614.
