Fitial certifies 7 over-the-cap salaries

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial certified the over-the-cap salaries of four doctors and one pharmacist at the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., and two assistant attorneys general at the Office of the Attorney General between Aug. 8 and Aug. 28.

The governor is required by law to report salaries that are over $50,000 a year.

The governor certified the $240,000 per annum salary of Dr. Roger S. Rodenhuis, an anesthesiologist at CHC.

Fitial also granted certification to the $165,000 per annum salaries of Dr. Gary G. Ramsey and Dr. Liane Mary Mizgala, both obstetrician/gynecologist, at CHC.

Dr. Ji Woon Kim, a gastroenterologist at CHC, was also certified to receive an annual salary of $135,000.

The governor also certified the $90,000 a year salary of Kimberly Ellen Runge, a pharmacist at CHC.

The governor certified the $64,000 annual salary of assistant attorney general Thomas J. Schweiger and the $54,000 a year salary of assistant attorney general Renee Callan, both working at the OAG.

The Salary Amendment Act of 1992 sets the salary ceiling for government employees at $50,000. However, the law gives the governor the authority to waive the ceiling, and submit a certification to the Legislature.

The governor is also mandated to advise the Civil Service Commission of any move to grant over-the-cap salaries.
