The Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization will begin its 2012-2013 fall semester girls high school basketball season on Oct. 3 and a day later on Oct. 4 will kick off its high school boys volleyball season. Both leagues will be played at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
Moreover, MISO organizers are holding a brief coaches and officials meeting this Monday, Sept. 17, 4:30pm at the MHS Gym conference to go over the girls basketball ground rules, after which a separate technical meeting concerning the boys' volleyball season will take place at 5:30pm. Every team must have a representative present at the meeting.
Defending champion MHS Lady Dolphins will take on Mount Carmel's Lady Knights immediately following the 4pm junior varsity match between MHS and the Saipan International School Lady Geckos.
MHS, Kagman High School's Lady Ayuyus, and Saipan Southern High School's Lady Manta Rays will each be suiting up in the varsity and a junior divisions, while MCS is fielding a lone varsity group, and SIS only a junior squad.
Games will be played on Wednesdays and Fridays at the MHS Gym. The junior matches tip off at 4pm and the varsity take the floor following a 10-minute intermission.
The regular season concludes on Oct. 31 with the double-elimination postseason tournament slated for Nov. 16 and 17.
Assuming Rota and Tinian make it over to participate in the playoffs they would automatically receive the third and fifth seeds on the bracket, respectively.
Eight teams make up this year's boys volleyball field including two squads from both MHS and SIS. Defending champion KHS, SSHS, MCS. and the Grace Christian Academy Eagles represent the other competing groups.
Games will take place on Thursdays and Tuesdays from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
