Another record field in SIS Fun Run

For the second straight year, the Saipan International School Fun Run had a record field, drawing 253 runners.

Last Saturday's turnout surpassed the 199 runners registered in the 2011 edition of the annual fundraiser.

Leading the participants of the race from Banzai Cliff to the dumping site near the Cowntown Raceway and back to Banzai was overall top finisher and first timer Sean Smith. Smith completed the about 3.5-mile race in 20:54 to rule back-to-back races held in Banzai. Last Sept. 8, Smith also prevailed in the 7th POWERade Banzai Memorial Off-Road Half Marathon.

In the women's division, Mamiko Oshima-Berger completed a three-peat after clocking in at 22:45.

Joining Smith and Oshima-Berger in the top winners list were U8's Sean Hill and Juliana Hall, U12' Misaki Kitami and Malika Miyawaki, and U18's Daniel Lim and Adelle Hudkins. Official times of the age group winners were not listed on the copy of the race results Saipan Tribune received.

Winners were awarded with gifts from event sponsors, while raffle prizes were also given away after the race.

Meanwhile, SIS Mili Saiki thanked all the runners who joined the weekend race. She added that proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for school improvement.
