The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is joining the efforts of community organizations and other partners in promoting health literacy throughout the Commonwealth.
JKPL's Erlinda C. Naputi said the state library has lined up activities in conjunction with the Let's Move Marianas 2012.
Let's Move Marianas is a campaign aimed at raising public education and awareness about the epidemic of chronic diseases affecting the people and encouraging families to adopt much healthier and more active lifestyles. It is in line with First Lady Michelle Obama's campaign to fight childhood obesity.
A “Let's Move Marianas” Expo is slated for Sept. 29, Saturday, from 7am to noon at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Among the activities to be hosted by the library is the Eagle Books Read Aloud today and on Sept. 26 at 4pm.
JKPL will also offer to the public free viewing of the documentary film “Weight of the Nation” at 4:30pm also on Sept. 19 and 26.
Healthy cooking demonstrations are also scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 11:30am to 2pm.
Naputi noted that learning materials on various health-related topics such as cooking and exercising will be on display at the library.
She encouraged library patrons to provide feedback on JKPL programs and services catering to the entire family.
JKPL is located in Susupe and is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 4pm. For more information, visit the library, call 235-READ (7323) or 7316, log on to www.cnmilibrary.com or email joetenkiyupubliclibrary@gmail.com.
