The Chalan Kanoa Saints motored past Rollers Basketball Club's Agape Torchbearers, 55-20, during the U20 division game in the 2012 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League last Monday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The already shorthanded Agape crew missed flamethrower Allen Guo thus had a hard time keeping up with the Saints' flashy new-pickup, Pedro Castro, who provided a lot of cleanup for the dirty dozen.
Castro actually worked the ball around pretty well from the tip and helped orchestrate a healthy 10-2 advantage after the opening 10 minutes. He then pushed up the pace a little in the second quarter and mustered 8 points to stretch the Saints lead to 16 at halftime, 24-8.
Joe Yang captained Agape with 6 points in the first half, but the group already showed signs of struggle against the Saints' deep bench as time wore down.
Yang was held to 4 points in the third quarter, as the Saints pressed on, 35-12, off another eight markers from Castro.
The fire was out for the Torchbearers before the start of the last period as they simply ran out of gas against the Saints' full court press defense.
Yang stepped up and delivered 18 of the group's total production, but could have used some support.
Castro topped the box score with 23 points and got 10 from fellow guard Ray Camacho.
Action in the U20 division continued last night with Proa (1-0) scheduled to square off against the Ol'Aces (0-1), but results were unavailable at press time. Today at 5:30pm, the Sonics (1-0) collide with LD Prime (1-0).
CK Saints 55 - Castro 23, Camacho 10, Blintz 6, Sablan 2, Lizama 2, Reyes 2, Eubanks 1.
Agape Torchbearers 20 - Yang 18, Li 2.
Scoring by quarters: 10-2, 24-8, 35-12, 55-20.
