Cook falls from horse, dies

A horse is seen here tied next to the house of the late Felix Borja Villagomez near the cemetery in Chalan Kanoa yesterday. Borja was known for riding horses on the island. (Ferdie Dela Torre) A cook died on Monday or two days after he fell from a horse along Tun Joaquin Road in Finasisu, Saipan Tribune learned.

Felix Borja Villagomez, 51, a cook at Herman's Modern Bakery, was admitted in the intensive care unit at the Commonwealth Health Center where he died due to head injuries.

Villagomez was riding his horse on Saturday night when he fell near the former Ladera International School of Saipan.

It was not clear whether he was on his way home to Chalan Kanoa or was going up the hill when the accident happened.

Police officers and medics arrived at the scene. The victim was then transported to CHC.

The Department of Public Safety has yet to release information to the media about the incident.

Villagomez is said to be the first fatality in a horse riding accident in the CNMI.

It is not clear whether there are laws in the CNMI requiring horse riders to wear helmets or any protective gears.

Some employees at Herman's Bakery said yesterday they were shocked with the untimely death of their co-worker.

Villagomez was known for riding horses on the island. His wife is Jessica Limes. They have young children.
