Neither IDK Who nor UCC is willing to give up the solo top spot in the 2012 Kanoa Resort Women's Fall Basketball League, as they remained deadlocked for the lead after this week's games at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
IDK Who cruised to a 61-46 victory over the winless Ichiban (0-5) last Monday to improve to a 4-1 record. UCC has the same mark, as incidentally it defeated Kiss My Pass (2-3) in a similar score last Wednesday.
Negahr Rastguiy had a breakout game for IDK Who, scoring 25 points and stepping up in place of the team's main gunner, Irish Pagarao. Rastguiy made majority of her points in IDK Who's second-half breakaway.
The diminutive guard had only one field goal in the opening canto, but Anne Padilla was there for IDK, firing 8 markers for their 14-11 lead. Ichiban remained afloat in the second canto, 21-28, despite Rastguiy's 6 markers in that period. Ichiban's Shaina Santiago finished with 7 points in the first half and two of her teammates added 4 points each to keep IDK within striking distance.
However, IDK Who turned on the heat in the third period with Rastguiy scoring the team's last 6 points and matching Ichiban's total output of 10 points in that canto. Rastguiy kept going in the fourth, adding 7 more.
In last Wednesday's game, UCC limited Kiss My Pass to 6 points in the second quarter to gain command of the match and hung in there in the second half to hand the latter its third straight loss.
UCC and Kiss My Pass connected on two triples each in the first period, as only 6 points separated the team, 16-10. UCC then widened the gap at the break, 26-16, after Kiss My Pass made only three field goals in the second canto.
Kiss My Pass ran an improved offense in the third period, but UCC converted more baskets, including three triples in the closing minutes of that quarter to stretch the lead to 21, 53-32. UCC got enough cushion in the third thus its 8-point production in the fourth did not affect the team's chances in the game.
Rachel Abrams top-scored for UCC with her 15 points, while Jeralyn Castillo paced Kiss My Pass with her 23 markers.
