Mariana Resort/ Proa walloped the Rollers Basketball Club's Agape Torchbearers (0-2), 64-22, in the U20 division game in the 2012 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League last Friday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Proa took no prisoners in Friday's opener and shot out of a cannon, 25-4, in the first 10 minutes to take its third win in as many games
Jacob Palacios and Shane Diaz combined for a baker's dozen, while Agape was held to only a couple baskets from David Lin. Proa remained focused on defense in the second quarter and again contained the Torchbearers to only 4 markers to pad the lead at the half, 37-8.
After the break, Agape's Joe Yang managed six points in the third quarter, but Ivan Sanarez answered for Proa and led the breakaway, 50-16. John Capuyon then rubbed some salt on Agape's wounds, firing two three-pointers in the final moments.
Notably, Pro point guards, Ichitaro Faisao and Jason Palacios, elected not to score any points during their shifts and instead dished the ball out to their teammates.
Rollers 2 66, LD Prime 56
In Friday's second game, Rollers 2 led by 17 points in the second quarter and never looked back.
LD Prime only trailed by a hair, 16-17, after the first frame thanks largely to the 8 points of Lawrence Rollon. However, Prince Factor one-upped his effort to position Rollers 2 on the top side.
Though Rollon held a hot hand at the tip, he and his team were restricted to just a handful of markers in the second quarter, as Rollers 2 made a huge defensive stand to secure an overwhelming 38-21 lead at mid point. Factor and Irvyn Malonzo teamed up for 11 points in the attack, while CJ Morales added a couple of early baskets that helped start the engine.
Rollon showed up anew after the break, scoring 9. However, he needed support and that did not come, as LD Prime just traded baskets with Rollers 2 in the third with ended with the latter still ahead, 45-33.
Myler David whipped out 10 points in the fourth quarter, but he showed up too late and although LD Prime never gave up, it simply fell too far behind to climb out of the hole.
Factor's 22 carried the torch for Rollers 2, while Rollon had 25 for LD Prime.
Rollers 1 62, Saints 41
In last Thursday's tiff, Josh Norita delivered six early points for Rollers 1, which assumed control after the first quarter, 15-9.
Rollers 1 trotted further ahead at intermission, 30-17, as the Saints' continued to struggle in second period. Rollers 1 received output from seven different players in the first half push and carried the momentum with them in the second half.
On the other end, the Saints went from bad into worse. They were stifled to two buckets in the third quarter, while Rollers 1's Erik Dela Rosa and Ralph Francisco tallied six points apiece in the runaway juncture.
Rollers 1's Dela Rosa and the Saints' Travis Eubanks led their respective squads with 14 points apiece.
