Pacific Islands Club and Mobil kept their unbeaten records intact after cruising past separate foes in the 2012 Emon Lodge 179 Basketball League-Docomo Brotherhood Cup last Thursday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
PIC improved to a 4-0 card after walloping Servitek (0-3) in the second game, 80-64, while Mobil earned the same mark, following a 91-80 victory over Ashley's (1-2) in the curtain raiser.
PIC's starters got into their senses in the second quarter and then built a commanding lead in the third to deny Servitek its first win in the league.
The formidable five of James Abuy, Brett Sutton, Darwin Barbo, Wowie Abuel, and Bart Demapan played too complacent in the opening canto, allowing Servitek to surprisingly take the driver's seat, 23-15. Clayton Kenty led Servitek in the first period, firing 8 markers.
However, Servitek's brilliance was short lived, as it was held to 8 points in the second canto, while PIC's starters got into business and sixth man Nevin Salem made his presence felt in that frame. Sutton nailed 10 of his 24 points in the second period, while Salem had 9 off the bench, as PIC opened a 42-31 halftime edge.
It was all PIC from thereon and with Sutton adding 8 more markers and the team ahead by 22 at the end of the third period, 68-46, its starters just watched their relievers finished the match in the fourth canto.
In the second match, Mobil duplicated PIC's feat after thwarting Ashley's with a third-quarter push.
It was still anybody's game after the first half with Mobil on top by only a hair, 43-42, before Jun Estolas took charge in the third, hitting two triples. He had 10 of his 24 points in the third, giving Mobil a 70-60 advantage.
The Mobil guard canned two more treys in the fourth and drew support from his four other teammates to preserve the lead and the win.
