Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman found probable cause yesterday to charge a man with using counterfeit Russian rubles to buy several items at DFS Galleria in Garapan.
At a preliminary hearing, Wiseman found probable cause to believe that the crime of theft by deception was committed and that the person who may have committed the offense is Franklin Crisostomo.
The judge ordered the 32-year-old Crisostomo to answer the charge.
Wiseman found no probable cause for the charge of counterfeiting and dismissed the charge.
The Office of the Attorney General charged Crisostomo with theft by deception and counterfeiting after he allegedly used five fake 5,000 Russian rubles to buy several items at DFS on Aug. 24, 2012.
Police said a surveillance camera captured the suspect purchasing the items from three different stores at DFS. The total amount of items sold to Crisostomo was worth $323, police said.
