In an effort to educate the islands' voting populace before this year's mid-term elections on Nov. 6, the Saipan Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its Saipan Senatorial Debate on Oct. 10, and its U.S. Congressional Debate on Oct. 17, both at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
Fifty debate tickets have been provided to each candidate for their supporters. The remaining tickets for the 300-person capacity debate hall are on sale as follows: Tickets are available to SCC members beginning Monday, Sept. 24, for $10 each. Each SCC member can purchase two tickets initially. On Monday, Oct. 1, all remaining $10 tickets will be made available to the general public, additional SCC member purchases, and the candidates as well.
Both debates will begin at 7pm, after the entrance doors are closed at 6:30pm. No one will permitted to enter the debate proceedings until intermission after the debates have started.
Any proceeds raised from the election debates, after costs are recovered for the evenings' election forums, go toward the SCC Scholarship Award Fund for the Chamber's annual $10,000 contribution to five Saipan college-bound students. (SCC)
