Twenty-six individuals received their certificates for completing various courses Northern Mariana Islands Football Association conducted in August and early this month.
For the basic referee course, 11 were handed certificates last Sunday during the presentation ceremony that concurred with the launching of the M-League at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Receiving their certificate of completion from NMIFA president Jerry Tan were Dale Ballesteros, Melissa Borja, Joel Fruit, Jeon Park, Jeong Ho Kim, Greg Kim Jeong Hwan Kim, Thomas Lee, Daniel Lim, and Glenn and Sean Perez. Helping out Tan in handing the certificates of completion were NMIFA technical director Johann Noetzel, NMIFA general secretary Ed Salas, and NMIFA Youth Committee chair Vickie Izuka.
Most of the participants in the basic referee course were in the U18 age group. They are playing in NMIFA's youth leagues and are expected to officiate games in the U6, U10, and U12 divisions or the association's non-competitive leagues.
The basic referee course was conducted in a four-part series with the first two held on Aug. 16 and 18 and the last on Aug. 24 and 25. The course was divided into two parts with the classroom session held at the NMIFA office at the TSL Plaza in Garapan and the practical part at the Oleai Sports Complex Field. NMIFA Referee Committee, led by Catherine Perry, conducted the course.
NMIFA also had a basic assistant referee course with five individuals completing the Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 training. Brothers Joel and Mason Fruit got their certificates of completion last Sunday and were joined by fellow graduates Thomas Lee, Jireh Yobech, and Isaac Anderson.
The recent course NMIFA conducted was the grassroots coaching course on Sept. 20 and 11 individuals completed the training and received certificates in last weekend's presentation. The list includes Leslie Alcantara, Albert Bergancia, Zeny Borja, Cris Bucalig, Ladyvir Canape, Sanjay Dangol, Kenneth Domingo, Rachel Masga, Marc Gerald Mora, Melanie Rabago, and Jaime Saiki.
NMIFA has been conducting a series of courses of referees and coaches to strengthen the soccer program in the CNMI.
