Tropical Storm Maliksi moves away from Northern Islands

Tropical Storm Maliksi (20W) continued moving away from the Marianas region yesterday and the tropical storm warning has been cancelled for Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan islands.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Guam, damaging winds are no longer expected in the Northern Island, but inter-island travel should be postponed until seas subside.

As of 1pm yesterday, the center of Tropical Storm Maliksi was located 220 miles west-northwest of Agrihan, 250 miles northwest of Pagan, 275 miles northwest of Alamagan, 415 miles north-northwest of Saipan, and 495 miles north of Guam.

Packing maximum winds at 45 miles per hour, Maliksi is moving toward the northwest at 15 mph.

Showers and isolated thunderstorms brought by Maliksi produced heavy downpours yesterday morning until last night.

NWS warned that rip currents will be very strong and life threatening.
